How to rotate a PDF — fix page orientation in seconds

Scanned documents often come out sideways. Slides exported from portrait mode end up landscape. A single page in a contract is upside down. Rotating a PDF fixes all of these in a few seconds.

Why PDF pages end up in the wrong orientation

The most common causes:

  • Scanner orientation — a document placed sideways on the scanner bed produces a rotated PDF
  • Mobile camera scans — phone scanning apps sometimes misread orientation
  • Export settings — presentations or spreadsheets exported to PDF may use the wrong page size and rotation
  • Mixed documents — a merged PDF from multiple sources may have inconsistent orientations

How to rotate a PDF in your browser

Our Rotate PDF tool runs entirely on your device. No uploads, no account.

Step 1 — Open the tool

Go to Rotate PDF.

Step 2 — Load your PDF

Drag and drop your file onto the upload area.

Step 3 — Choose the rotation angle

Select 90°, 180° or 270° clockwise. The rotation is applied to all pages.

  • 90° clockwise — turns a landscape page to portrait (or vice versa)
  • 180° — flips the document upside down (fixes an inverted scan)
  • 270° clockwise (= 90° counter-clockwise) — rotates the other direction

Step 4 — Download

Click Rotate and download the corrected PDF immediately.

Rotating specific pages only

The tool applies the chosen rotation to all pages. If you only need to rotate some pages, split the document first:

  1. Use Split PDF to extract the pages that need rotating
  2. Rotate that extracted section with Rotate PDF
  3. Combine everything back with Merge PDF

Does rotating affect quality?

No. Rotation in PDF is a metadata operation — it changes the display orientation without re-encoding images or text. The content is identical; only the viewing angle changes.

Other orientation fixes

  • Mirror / flip — if your scan is mirrored rather than rotated, use Mirror Pages to flip pages horizontally or vertically
  • Crop — if the scanner picked up the scanner lid or a border, Crop PDF removes the unwanted area after rotating

Conclusion

Rotating a PDF takes under 30 seconds and requires nothing beyond a browser. No Acrobat, no subscription, no file uploads.
